A common theme in this podcast is the way that open source brings people together and it’s those communities that become far more powerful than the software that we initially got into. In this episode, I sit down with my friend Dee Teal, a Melbourne-based project manager, delivery leader and long time WordPress community member and organizer and we nerd out about the “cultural algorithms” we take with us into our interactions with others. Dee shares how an implicit bias workshop we both participated in broke her own assumptions and we talk about how the “melting pot” metaphor for culture is not as powerful as a “tapestry.”
We also talk about Dee’s work with WP Includes, a mentorship program helping women and underrepresented people step into leadership roles at WordPress companies and how imposter syndrome connects to patriarchy.
In this final episode of 2025, join us for a fantastic chat about community, equity and building teams where people feel like they belong. And don’t forget to subscribe to get all the episodes of 2026!
