Jacquie Capur used to be so nervous about speaking in meetings that she’d lose entire mornings to it. Her fix? Something scarier. One meetup talk later, she was on the main stage at DevOps Toronto in front of about eleven hundred people. She still carries the stress stone a teammate gave her.
In this episode of Community + Code, Jacquie and I talk about the winding road from music major to DevOps engineer to DevRel, including a stint on CodeTV’s live-coding show that she describes as Great British Bake Off, but you’re building an app. Weekly flights to Portland, a spinner bus, and a lot of “I couldn’t have built this in a day.”
We also dig into what’s changing in DevRel, how hard it is to measure something that’s mostly vibes, and why a human still has to translate the geek speak for the rest of us. And in the middle of all of it: wonder. Jacquie says AI tools are making building feel like the early-2000s internet again, whether that’s a video game starring her dog or an anniversary song for her husband.
